The ARTENUR notebook / Selected studies
From an owned watch
to an authored one.
Personal watch history, present design decisions
and the questions still open.
These pages combine remembered watch history with new drawings and explanatory geometry. The sketches are creative reconstructions, not dated archival evidence or manufacturing drawings.

Personal history / c. 2005–2006
Before a design,
there was a Rado.
The founder’s Rado belongs to the history of this project: a watch lived with before the possibility of making one became a design brief.
The distinction matters. An owned watch is a complete object. Designing one means separating that apparent simplicity into a case, a dial, a movement and hundreds of decisions at their edges.
Selected design direction
Let the case
make room for air.
The open lug takes material away without changing the outer silhouette. It makes the junction of case and strap something to look through, as well as something to attach to.
Open Lugs leads the current development. Closed Lugs retains the same exterior. Their strength and manufacture still require physical evidence.
Controlled visual proportion
One name.
One exact position.
The signature sits on the vertical centreline, halfway between the pinion and the upper inner dial edge. It is part of the dial’s structure rather than an ornament laid over it.
Seven silver rib guides surround the same origin. The black meridian holds the two fields together.
Reference only / Donor unverified
The calibre sets
the questions.
The nominal 39 mm case-body width and the 25.6 mm ETA 2824-2 reference diameter do not, by themselves, prove that the movement fits.
The movement holder, stem axis, dial feet, hands and crystal stack all have to agree. A measured donor and an assembled trial are the next evidence.
The arithmetic, and its limit
(39 − 25.6) ÷ 2 = 6.7 mm per side. This is only a difference between nominal widths. It includes case walls and interface geometry; it is not usable radial clearance.
Founder-selected composition / Unqualified
AETERNA 928
A nominal silver-alloy composition chosen for the case. Its behaviour must be established in a specimen before it can be relied on in a watch.
- Ag Silver
- 92.80%
- Cu Copper
- 4.20%
- Zn Zinc
- 1.80%
- Al Aluminium
- 1.20%
Nominal percentages by mass. The dial, ribs, appliqué and buckle retain their separate 925-silver intent. No alloy performance, finish durability or production readiness is claimed.

- Ag

- Cu
- 4.20 g
- Zn
- 1.80 g
- Al
- 1.20 g
Mass of each element = total mass × its nominal fraction. This illustration is not a foundry recipe and excludes process losses.

Two expressions.
The same undertaking.
Al Nur and Az Zalam share the emerald field, central spine and rib system. Their right-hand fields change the reading of the same composition.
